Philosophy is a field of great mysticism, described by Merriam-Webster as, “he study of ideas about knowledge, truth, the nature and meaning of life, etc.” Philosophical topics are especially interesting to address because there is no right or wrong answer. Either side of a topic can be argued using philosophical texts, and scholarly questions. Some suggested philosophy essay topics include:
The idea of the difference between what is right and what is wrong, address issues of morality and immorality. What code of conduct are we following, and how do we determine what is actually right and wrong? Are there gray areas, or is right/wrong deemed black/white?
Different from what is right, and wrong—there is also the question of who determines what is right and what is wrong. Who polices our actions, if anyone? This topic is a broad one to tackle, so you will want to make sure to be exclusive about the research you include.
The seven deadly sins are more often than not the route of human pleasure. Does that mean pleasure is deemed good? Or are these still sinful indulgences? Argue whether pleasure is intrinsically good or not.
The same goes for beauty. Beauty is something we value highly in our daily routines. Is beauty something that is good or does it stand individually separate from good/virtue?
Addressing whether or not ethics are debatable is intriguing because it addresses the idea of universal right or unanimously wrong actions. Again, are there areas of gray in ethics, or a master set of ethical standards in our societies?
This topic addresses the natural tendencies of humans. What motivates humans? Are they only self-motivated, selfish at the route? Or are do humans from motivation from selfless sources?
What determines beliefs? Is that the same for every person? Where and when does this process occur? Is the basis for belief something instinctive?
Now, do not limit yourself to only these topics! They serve as a starting point for your topic. The opportunities for your philosophical essay are endless, and after some digging, you will find sometime that truly interests you personally. Address the topics with an open mind, and consider all questions carefully on many levels.
